1. On April 10, 1864, Montana Territory was established by an act of Congress. This created the territory out of portions of Idaho and Dakota territories, and it eventually became the state of Montana in 1889.

2. In 1890, on April 10, the largest crowd ever recorded in Montana history gathered in Helena to watch a prizefight between John L. Sullivan and Jake Kilrain. The event was the last bare-knuckle heavyweight championship. Sullivan won after 75 rounds and almost two and a half hours of fighting.

3. On April 10, 1908, the city of Billings was officially incorporated. It became the largest city in Montana and an important hub for transportation, education, and industry.

4. In 1935, on April 10, the first flight of the Northern Pacific Express was made from Seattle to Butte, Montana. The airline later became Northwest Airlines, which was acquired by Delta Airlines in 2008.

5. On April 10, 1971, the Missoula Children's Theatre was founded by Jim Caron and Don Collins. The non-profit organization has become a beloved institution in Montana, providing theater education and performances for children across the state and beyond.
