1. On April 11, 1890, Idaho Governor Norman B. Willey signed a bill to establish the Idaho State Normal School in Albion, Idaho. The school later became part of the Idaho State University system and continues to serve students today.

2. April 11, 1912 marked the opening of the Shoshone and Twin Falls County Land and Water Company’s gravity-flow irrigation system. This system brought much-needed water to the parched southern Idaho region and allowed for the growth of crops such as sugar beets, alfalfa, and potatoes.

3. In 1945, Idaho’s Kellogg High School basketball team won the state championship on April 11. That same year, the team went on to win the national championship in Chicago, cementing their place in Idaho athletic history.

4. On April 11, 1986, the Clearwater National Forest in north-central Idaho officially became part of the National Wilderness Preservation System, providing protection for some of Idaho’s most pristine natural landscapes.

5. April 11, 2017 marked a historic moment for Idaho’s transgender community, as Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter signed a bill allowing transgender individuals to change the gender on their birth certificates without proof of surgery. This change made Idaho one of only a handful of states with such progressive policies regarding gender identity.
