1. In 1820, the first Christian missionaries arrived in Hawaii on April 12th. Led by Hiram Bingham, the group of missionaries was comprised of 14 men and women from New England. They planned to spread Christianity and western education throughout the islands.

4. In 1980, the Hawaii State Capitol building was dedicated on April 12th. The building, designed by architect John Carl Warnecke, is an iconic landmark in Honolulu, with its distinctive cone-shaped roof and open-air design. It houses the offices of the Governor and the State Legislature, and is also a popular tourist attraction.

5. In 2019, the first-ever photograph of a black hole was revealed to the world on April 12th. The photograph was taken by an international team of astronomers using a network of telescopes around the globe, including the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii. The image captured the supermassive black hole at the center of the M87 galaxy, more than 50 million light years away from Earth. It was a groundbreaking achievement in the field of astrophysics, and generated worldwide excitement and interest.
