3. On April 13, 1949, a major earthquake struck the town of Ridgecrest in the Mojave Desert. The magnitude 7.1 quake caused significant damage and seven people were killed.

4. In 1967, the first performance of the rock musical "Hair" took place at the Aquarius Theatre in Los Angeles. The controversial production tackled issues such as drugs, sex, and the Vietnam War.

5. On April 13, 1984, the Space Shuttle Challenger successfully completed its first mission, STS-41-C. The crew included the first Canadian astronaut and the first sitting member of Congress to travel in space. Tragically, Challenger was lost during its 10th mission in 1986, killing all seven crew members.
