1. The first White Pine County, Nevada, Courthouse was completed on April 19, 1869, in Hamilton, the county seat at the time. The building was constructed of local stone and stood two stories tall. It served as a courthouse until 1887 when the county seat was moved to Ely.

2. On April 19, 1905, a massive fire swept through the town of Tonopah, Nevada. The fire destroyed much of the town, including the three-story Mizpah Hotel, which was one of the most luxurious hotels in the West at the time. The fire left over 2,000 people homeless.

3. On April 19, 1922, the Nevada legislature passed a bill establishing the University of Nevada, Reno, as a four-year institution. Prior to this, the university had only offered two-year programs. The university has since grown to become the state's flagship institution of higher education.

4. In 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed, killing 168 people. Among the victims was Lake Tahoe resident, and former Secret Service agent, Alan Whicher, who was in the building on official business. Whicher was born on April 19, 1951, in Carlin, Nevada.

5. On April 19, 2014, rancher Cliven Bundy, his family, and supporters engaged in an armed standoff with federal agents in Bunkerville, Nevada. Bundy had been grazing his cattle on federal lands without paying grazing fees for over 20 years. The standoff, which lasted several weeks, drew national attention and highlighted long-standing tensions between Western ranchers and the federal government.
