1. In 1836, the city of Memphis was incorporated on April 19th. This marked a significant moment in Tennessee history as Memphis went on to become one of the largest and most influential cities in the state.

2. On April 19, 1960, the state of Tennessee enacted its first ever sales tax. This tax, which began at a rate of 2.75%, has since been adjusted several times and currently stands at a rate of 7%.

3. In 1987, a devastating tornado struck the town of Royalton, Tennessee on April 19th. The tornado caused significant damage to the town, destroying several homes and businesses, and injuring over 50 people.

4. On April 19, 1995, a truck bomb exploded outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Among the victims were several individuals from Tennessee, including a child care worker from Murfreesboro and a Secret Service agent from the state.

5. The Tennessee Titans, formerly known as the Houston Oilers, selected quarterback Steve McNair with the third overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft on April 19th. While he spent the majority of his career with the Titans and became one of the franchise's greatest players, McNair tragically passed away in 2009.
