1. In 1868, the first professional baseball game was played in New Jersey. The game took place in Hoboken and featured the Brooklyn Atlantics playing against the Newark Eurekas.

2. On April 2, 1921, New Jersey passed the Sullivan Law, which required a license for owning a handgun and made it a crime to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

3. The first synagogue in New Jersey was dedicated on April 2, 1858, in Trenton. The synagogue, now known as the Shalom Association of Trenton, is still in operation today.

4. On April 2, 1955, the first McDonald's restaurant opened in New Jersey. The restaurant was located in Paterson and was only the third McDonald's location in the country at the time.

5. In 1973, the first cable television franchise in New Jersey was awarded to Cablevision of Newark. This paved the way for cable television to become widely available throughout the state.
