1. On April 2, 1906, the city of Tulsa was incorporated. Originally a small frontier town, Tulsa grew rapidly after the discovery of oil in the surrounding area in the early 1900s.
2. In 1979, Oklahoma became the first state to legalize the sale of 3.2% beer. Prior to this, beer could only be sold in Oklahoma if it was below 3.2% alcohol by volume.
3. On April 2, 1941, Oklahoma native and baseball legend Mickey Mantle made his professional debut with the Joplin Miners, a minor league team in Missouri. Mantle would go on to become one of the greatest players in baseball history, spending his entire major league career with the New York Yankees.
4. Oklahoma State University's School of Veterinary Medicine was established on April 2, 1949. The school is now one of only 32 colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States.
5. On April 2, 1978, the "Oklahoma Rocks!" music festival was held at the Myriad Convention Center (now the Cox Convention Center) in Oklahoma City. The festival featured several popular bands of the time, including Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, and Journey.
