1. In 1798, the first issue of the Vermont Gazette was published in Bennington. It was the first newspaper in the state and was published weekly.

2. On April 21, 1862, the Battle of Lee's Mills took place in Virginia during the American Civil War. Many Vermont soldiers were involved in the battle, which resulted in Union forces being repulsed and forced to retreat.

3. In 1910, the Vermont Legislature passed a law creating a state flag. The design included the state seal on a blue field, with the state motto "Freedom and Unity" written in gold letters.

4. The Green Mountain Club, which maintains Vermont's Long Trail hiking trail, was founded on April 21, 1910.

5. In 1994, the Vermont Teddy Bear Company introduced its first "Bear-Gram" gift delivery service, which allowed customers to send personalized teddy bears with custom messages. The company has since grown to become a popular Vermont tourist attraction and gift shop.
