1. In 1637, the Pequot War began in Connecticut. It was a conflict between the Pequot tribe and an alliance of English and Native American forces. The war lasted until 1638 and greatly reduced the Pequot population.

2. In 1775, British troops landed in Danbury, Connecticut during the Revolutionary War. They were on a mission to capture supplies and destroy a munitions depot. The mission was partially successful, but American forces were able to harass the British troops on their return to the coast.

3. In 1800, Noah Webster published his American Dictionary of the English Language in Hartford, Connecticut. It was the first dictionary of American English and included many new words that were specific to the United States.

4. In 1962, the first nuclear-powered submarine built in the United States, the USS Nautilus, was decommissioned in Groton, Connecticut. The submarine had set many records during its career, including being the first vessel to complete a submerged transit of the North Pole.

5. In 2005, Connecticut became the first state to legalize civil unions for same-sex couples. The law was a landmark moment for the LGBTQ+ rights movement and paved the way for other states to follow suit with similar legislation.
