1. The first ever Wisconsin State Fair was held on April 24, 1851 in Janesville. It was a two day event that featured competitions in livestock, produce and crafts.

2. On April 24, 1974, a tornado outbreak hit the state causing significant damage in the towns of Barneveld and La Crosse. In all, 13 tornadoes touched down causing over $50 million in damages and killing 9 people.

3. On April 24, 1964, the University of Wisconsin-Madison introduced its new mascot, Bucky Badger. The mascot was named after a student contest and has become an iconic figure in college sports.

4. The Milwaukee Brewers played their first ever home game on April 24, 1970. The team played at County Stadium and lost to the California Angels 12-0.

5. On April 24, 1961, the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington was completed. The structure was built by a Milwaukee-based construction company and many of the workers were from Wisconsin.
