1. On April 25, 1781, during the American Revolutionary War, a bloody battle was fought in Williamsport, Maryland between the Continental Army and British forces. The Continental Army was led by General William Smallwood, a Maryland native who went on to become governor of the state.

2. April 25, 1862 marked the beginning of the Union's occupation of St. Mary's County during the Civil War. The Union soldiers, under General John E. Wool, wanted to protect the Chesapeake Bay and control the roads leading to Washington, D.C.

3. On April 25, 1900, the Maryland State Legislature voted to establish a School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland. The school still exists today and provides education and support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

4. Maryland native and baseball legend Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run on April 25, 1914, while playing for the Baltimore Orioles. The home run was hit at Oriole Park in Baltimore, which has since been replaced by Camden Yards.
