3. In 2003, the completion of the new Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport was celebrated. The terminal was designed by Eero Saarinen and features a sweeping, wave-like roof made of concrete and steel.
4. In 1865, John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of President Abraham Lincoln, was tracked down and killed by Union soldiers in Virginia. The assassination occurred on April 14th, but it wasn't until April 26th that Booth was found and killed.
5. In 1989, the first "Earth Day" held in New York City. The event, which had been first celebrated 19 years earlier in San Francisco, was a call to action for environmental protection and was marked by demonstrations, workshops, and concerts throughout the city.
