2. On April 28, 1962, a massive fire tore through downtown Flagstaff, destroying more than half a dozen buildings and causing millions of dollars in damage. Although the cause of the blaze was never officially determined, it is believed to have been started by faulty electrical wiring.

3. In 1993, Governor Fife Symington signed Arizona's first "peek-a-boo law," which required businesses with opaque windows to install additional lighting or warning signs to reduce crime. The law was controversial and ultimately struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional.

4. On April 28, 1997, a powerful tornado ripped through the town of Safford, causing extensive damage to multiple homes and businesses. Thankfully, no one was killed or seriously injured in the storm.

5. In 2009, Arizona became the first state in the country to approve a law allowing residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit or background check. The law sparked controversy and was met with opposition from many groups, including law enforcement agencies and gun control advocates.
