1. On April 28, 1963, a massive earthquake struck Montana, measuring at a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located in the Madison Valley, causing extensive damage and resulting in one fatality.
2. In 1880, on April 28, the notorious outlaw Henry Plummer was hanged by vigilantes in Bannack, Montana. Plummer was the leader of a gang of road agents responsible for numerous robberies and murders in the area.
