1. In 1870, Denver became the capital of Colorado. Before then, it was housed in Golden.
2. In 1979, the Oneida Tower in Denver was imploded. It was the tallest building in the city at the time and had become a dangerous eyesore.
3. The Colorado Rockies played their first ever opening day game on April 4, 1993. They beat the Montreal Expos 11-4 in front of a home crowd at Mile High Stadium.
4. In 2012, a huge wildfire broke out near the town of Estes Park. It was sparked by a controlled burn that got out of hand and ended up causing over $40 million in damages.
5. On April 4, 2016, Colorado's highest court ruled that employers can fire employees for using medical marijuana. It was a controversial decision that drew criticism from advocates for marijuana legalization.
