3. On April 5, 1929, Virginia's General Assembly ratified the Kellogg-Briand Pact, which renounced war as a means of settling disputes between nations. The treaty was signed by 62 countries, including the United States, in an attempt to prevent another World War.

4. The Virginia Tech massacre, one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history, occurred on April 16, 2007. 32 people were killed and 17 others were wounded when a student opened fire on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

5. On April 5, 2012, George Allen announced that he would seek the Republican nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in Virginia. Allen, a former governor of Virginia, went on to win the nomination but was ultimately defeated by Democratic challenger Tim Kaine in the general election.
