3. In 1964, an F4 tornado ripped through several counties in Eastern Kentucky on April 7. The storm caused extensive damage and resulted in 6 fatalities.
4. In 1986, famed Kentucky Derby thoroughbred racehorse, Ferdinand, won the Santa Anita Derby on April 7. Ferdinand went on to win the 1986 Kentucky Derby and the 1987 Breeders' Cup Classic.
5. On April 7, 2003, the Kentucky General Assembly passed a bill making Kentucky the first state to require that all high school students pass a financial literacy test before graduating. The law went into effect on January 1, 2008.
