1. On August 10th, 1917, the historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood opened its doors to visitors. Built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression, the lodge has become an iconic landmark and a popular destination for skiers, hikers, and sightseers.

2. August 10th, 1985, marked the day when 22-year-old Steve Prefontaine, one of America's greatest long-distance runners, died tragically in a car accident in Eugene, Oregon. Prefontaine had set numerous American records and competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He remains a beloved figure in Oregon sports history.

3. On August 10th, 1915, the town of Bend, Oregon officially incorporated. Founded in 1904 as a logging town, Bend has since become a thriving city with a diverse economy, vibrant arts and culture scene, and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities.

4. In 1996, the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area was designated by the U.S. Congress to protect and preserve the natural beauty and cultural resources of the Columbia River Gorge. August 10th marks the anniversary of this landmark legislative achievement, which has helped to ensure the protection of this unique region for future generations.

5. On August 10th, 1962, the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem hosted a performance by The Beatles, just a few months before they would become a worldwide phenomenon. The concert drew around 7,000 fans and marked the only time the Fab Four ever performed in Oregon. Today, a plaque commemorates the historic event at the site of the former fairgrounds.
