3. In 1952, the University of Arkansas School of Law admitted its first African American student, Silas Hunt. Hunt had previously been denied admission to the university but was later admitted following a Supreme Court ruling.

4. In 1963, the Arkansas State Police arrested civil rights leader James Farmer and others for leading a group of protesters in a sit-in at a segregated restaurant in Little Rock.
