1. In 1885, the first electric streetcar in Connecticut was activated in New Haven. This marked the beginning of a new era of transportation in the state.

2. On August 11, 1929, the Connecticut River flooded and caused widespread devastation throughout the state. The flood caused immense damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure, and remained one of the worst natural disasters in Connecticut's history.

3. In 1973, the Hartford Civic Center was opened to the public. This multipurpose arena has hosted a variety of events, including concerts, sporting events, and political conventions.

4. On August 11, 2005, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples had the right to marry. Connecticut was the third state in the country to legalize same-sex marriage.

5. In 2011, Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium received two beluga whales from Canada as part of a breeding program. The whales, named Naluark and Juno, brought a great deal of excitement to the aquarium and helped to promote ocean conservation efforts.
