1. On August 18, 1904, the first automobiles arrived in Salt Lake City. A group of local car dealers drove 16 cars from Ogden to Salt Lake City, where they were met by a crowd of interested observers. This was a major development in the history of transportation in Utah.

2. August 18, 1920, marked the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. Utah had already enfranchised women in 1896, but the 19th Amendment ensured that women throughout the country had the same right.
