1. In 1863, Walbridge was established as a village in Ohio. It was named after Fort Walbridge, which was a military post during the Civil War. Today, it is a small suburban town about 10 miles south of Toledo.

2. On August 21, 1877, the Ohio State University was established in Columbus. Originally called the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College, it was the first land-grant university in the United States. Today, it is one of the largest universities in the country with over 66,000 students.

3. In 1912, a riot erupted in Steubenville, Ohio, during a labor strike. The National Guard was called in to quell the violence, which resulted in the deaths of four people and the injury of many more. The incident became known as the "Steubenville Riot" and was one of the most violent labor disputes in Ohio history.

4. On August 21, 1959, the first flight of the Convair B-58 Hustler took place at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The B-58 was a supersonic bomber designed to deliver nuclear weapons during the Cold War. It was the first aircraft to fly at supersonic speeds for extended periods of time.

5. In 2017, a total solar eclipse was visible from Ohio. The eclipse began at 1:04 pm and lasted for about three hours. Many people gathered in parks and public spaces throughout the state to witness the rare celestial event. The next total solar eclipse visible from Ohio will occur on April 8, 2024.
