2. The Saxon Hotel in Enid, Oklahoma, was the location of a historic meeting between civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson on August 23, 1962. The two men discussed strategies for advancing the cause of integration in America.

3. August 23, 1916, marked the birth of legendary jazz guitarist Barney Kessel in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Kessel went on to play with some of the biggest names in the music industry and was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in 1997.

4. The Oklahoma City Thunder made a major move on August 23, 2019, acquiring star point guard Chris Paul in a trade with the Houston Rockets. Paul went on to play a key role for the Thunder during the 2019-2020 season.

5. August 23, 1906, saw the birth of legendary Oklahoma politician Robert S. Kerr. Kerr served as governor of Oklahoma from 1943-1947 and went on to represent the state in the U.S. Senate from 1949 until his death in 1963. Kerr was one of the most influential U.S. senators of his time, particularly in the areas of energy and natural resources.
