1. First Female Governor
On August 27, 1925, Nellie Tayloe Ross was inaugurated as Wyoming's first female governor. She took office after her husband, Governor William Bradford Ross, died in office. She went on to serve as governor for two consecutive terms, making her the first woman in the United States to serve as governor.

2. Solar Eclipse
On August 27, 2017, a total solar eclipse passed over Wyoming. This rare event drew thousands of visitors to the state, as it was one of the best places in the country to view the eclipse. Many businesses in Wyoming reported record sales during the eclipse weekend.

3. Famous Outlaw
On August 27, 1881, the infamous outlaw Tom "Black Jack" Ketchum was hanged in Union County, New Mexico. Ketchum was a member of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang, and was known for his brutal crimes. He is buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

4. Historic Train Robbery
On August 27, 1896, the first train robbery in Wyoming took place near Wilcox. A group of bandits stopped a train headed for Sheridan and robbed the passengers at gunpoint. They got away with over $27,000 in cash, gold, and silver. The robbers were eventually caught and brought to justice.

5. Yellowstone National Park
On August 27, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, which created the National Park Service. The Act was an important step in the protection and preservation of America's national parks, including Wyoming's own Yellowstone National Park. Today, Yellowstone is one of the most visited national parks in the country, attracting millions of visitors each year.
