2. On August 29, 1901, the legendary outlaw Tom Horn was convicted of the murder of Willie Nickell in Colorado. Horn, a former army scout and hired gunman for ranchers, had been accused of killing Nickell in a dispute over sheep grazing rights. He was executed by hanging in November of that year.
