4. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Florida before moving on to devastate New Orleans and other parts of the Gulf Coast. While the storm caused significant damage in Florida, it was the catastrophic flooding in Louisiana that caused the most destruction and loss of life.
