1. In 1871, the first railroad from Denver to Cheyenne was completed, which greatly improved transportation and commerce within the state of Colorado.
2. On August 30, 1902, the first ever rodeo was held outside of Denver, Colorado. The event attracted participants and spectators from all over the United States, and thus began the state's long-standing association with rodeo culture.
3. In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, giving women the right to vote. Colorado had previously granted women suffrage in its own state constitution in 1893, making it one of the first states to grant women the right to vote.
4. On August 30, 2003, the city of Boulder experienced one of the worst flash floods in its history. The heavy rains caused widespread damage and destruction, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.
5. In 2012, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed an executive order creating the state's first-ever water plan. The plan aims to address the state's growing population and changing climate, while also protecting Colorado's precious water resources for future generations.
