1. In 1873, the first passenger train arrived in the city of Denver via the Denver Pacific Railway. This new railway system eventually helped to connect Denver to the rest of the country and played a crucial role in the city's growth and development.

2. Colorado became the 38th state in the United States on August 1, 1876, but it wasn't until August 6 of that same year that the state's first governor, John L. Routt, was officially inaugurated.

3. On August 6, 1923, the first federal fish hatchery was established in Leadville, Colorado. The hatchery was built to raise fish and stock nearby lakes and streams for recreational fishing, and is still in operation today.

4. In 1943, the United States Army activated the 10th Mountain Division, a specialized unit of soldiers trained in mountain warfare. Many of the soldiers were trained in Colorado, and the state's mountainous terrain and harsh weather conditions made it an ideal training ground for the division.

5. On August 6, 2015, Colorado marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating floods that hit the state in 2014. The floods, which were caused by heavy rainfall, resulted in 10 deaths, caused billions of dollars in damage, and affected thousands of people across the state. Despite the tragedy, the people of Colorado have shown incredible resilience and continue to rebuild their homes and communities to this day.
