1. In 1955, the iconic Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale opened its doors for the first time. The hotel, designed by famous architect Edward Varney, quickly became a hub for Hollywood celebrities and remains a popular destination for visitors to Arizona today.

2. On August 7, 1964, the Beatles played their first concert in Arizona at the Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. The concert, which sold out in just a few hours, drew thousands of screaming fans and marked the height of Beatlemania in the United States.

3. In 1980, a massive wildfire known as the Dude Fire swept through the Tonto National Forest, just outside of Payson, Arizona. The fire, which started on June 25 and was finally contained on August 7, burned over 24,000 acres and claimed the lives of six firefighters.

4. On August 7, 1992, the cornerstone of the new Arizona Diamondbacks stadium was laid in downtown Phoenix. The stadium, now known as Chase Field, opened in 1998 and is home to the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team.

5. In 2013, the Yarnell Hill Fire, one of the deadliest wildfires in Arizona history, was officially declared contained on August 7. The fire, which started on June 28 and burned over 8,000 acres, claimed the lives of 19 firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots crew.
