1. The University of Wisconsin was founded on August 7, 1848. The first classes were held in February 1849 with just over 20 students attending. Today, the University of Wisconsin is one of the largest public universities in the United States, with over 44,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

2. On August 7, 1919, the Green Bay Packers football team was founded. Originally sponsored by the Indian Packing Company, the team was formed by Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney. Today, the Green Bay Packers are one of the most successful franchises in NFL history, having won 13 league championships, including 4 Super Bowl titles.

3. The first World Bantamweight Championship boxing match was held in Milwaukee on August 7, 1922. The fight featured Johnny Buff defending his title against Eddie Campi. Buff won the fight in a 15-round decision, retaining his championship title.

4. During the summer of 1964, civil rights activists came to Wisconsin from throughout the United States to help register black voters. Many activists gathered in the city of Waukesha on August 7, where they were met by opponents who wanted to maintain the status quo. Although tensions were high, the day ended without any major incidents.

5. The historic Cedarburg Covered Bridge, which spans Cedar Creek in Ozaukee County, reopened on August 7, 2005, following extensive renovations. First constructed in 1876, the bridge is one of the last remaining covered bridges in Wisconsin. It is now open to pedestrians and bicyclists and continues to be a popular attraction in the area.
