1. Nevada became a state on October 31, 1864, but it wasn't until December 1 of that same year that the state's first governor, Henry Blasdel, took office.

2. On December 1, 1928, the first radio station in Nevada, KTHO, began broadcasting from Reno. The station was initially owned by Elmo C. Banton and was later purchased by Don Ray.

3. In 1954, on December 1, the Atomic Energy Commission conducted a nuclear test at the Nevada Test Site. The test, called "Hardtack II-Teak," was the first hydrogen bomb test conducted at the site.

4. Nevada's first female lieutenant governor, Sue Wagner, took office on December 1, 1991. Wagner served two terms under Governor Bob Miller and was the first female to hold the position in Nevada's history.

5. On December 1, 2018, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas closed its doors for the final time. The iconic casino had operated for over 20 years and was known for its rock 'n' roll theme and live music events. The property has since been rebranded as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
