1. Louisiana officially became a state on December 14, 1812. Prior to this, Louisiana had been a territory of the United States since the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.

2. On December 14, 1814, during the War of 1812, British forces attacked the city of New Orleans. The Battle of New Orleans, which took place over two weeks, resulted in a decisive victory for the United States, despite being heavily outnumbered.

3. Louisiana was the first state to officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday on December 14, 2020. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, and is celebrated on June 19th.

4. The 197th Infantry Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard was activated on December 14, 2005, in response to Hurricane Katrina. The brigade played a critical role in search and rescue operations, as well as providing security and logistical support.

5. On December 14, 1935, the Huey P. Long Bridge opened to traffic in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Named after Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long, the bridge spans the Mississippi River and is the longest truss bridge in the United States.
