1. On December 15, 1836, the Arkansas legislature approved the creation of Arkansas College, which is now known as Lyon College. The college was founded in Batesville, Arkansas and is recognized as one of the oldest independent colleges in the South.

2. Another important event that occurred on December 15 in Arkansas history was the establishment of the Fort Smith National Cemetery in 1867. The cemetery was created to honor those who fought in the Civil War and was later expanded to include veterans from other conflicts.

3. In 1914, the Arkansas state capitol building was completed and became one of the most iconic landmarks in the state. The building stands 230 feet tall and features a dome made of 24 karat gold leaf.

4. On December 15, 1937, Little Rock’s Robinson Auditorium officially opened its doors. The venue has since hosted numerous concerts, shows, and events and is regarded as one of the premier cultural centers in the state.

5. Finally, on December 15, 1954, the United Service Organizations (USO) opened a new club in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The USO provided recreation and support services to military personnel and their families during World War II and continues to provide support to this day.
