1. In 1858, Colorado's first newspaper, the Rocky Mountain News, was established in Denver. At the time, Colorado was still a territory and wouldn't become a state for another 32 years.

2. On December 15, 1876, the Colorado Supreme Court issued a ruling in the case of People v. McIntyre, declaring that women had the right to vote in school elections. This was a significant step in the women's suffrage movement, which would eventually lead to women gaining full voting rights in Colorado and across the United States.

3. In 1915, the Gunnison Tunnel in western Colorado was completed, enabling irrigation for thousands of acres of farmland in the region. The tunnel is over 5 miles long and took more than a decade to build.

4. On December 15, 1974, a massive snowstorm hit Colorado's Front Range, dumping up to 30 inches of snow in some areas and causing widespread power outages and travel disruptions. The storm is still remembered as one of the worst in state history.

5. In 1993, the Denver Broncos defeated the Oakland Raiders 33-30 in a dramatic overtime game that is still considered one of the most memorable in Broncos history.
