4. In 1975, the Indonesian invasion of East Timor began, resulting in a brutal 24-year-long occupation that left an estimated 100,000 people dead. The invasion was supported by the United States, which hoped to gain access to the country's oil reserves.

5. In 2010, President Barack Obama signed the DREAM Act into law, which provided a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children. The law was later repealed by the Trump administration.
