1) In 1845, Kentucky became the first state to adopt the first statewide Thanksgiving holiday, which was celebrated on December 2 in that year. Prior to this, Thanksgiving was celebrated on different days in different states.

2) On December 2, 1861, the Confederate cavalry under General John Hunt Morgan launched a surprise attack on the Union garrison in the town of Green River, Kentucky. Despite being outnumbered, the Union troops were able to repel the attack and secure the town.

3) The Great Train Robbery occurred in Kentucky on December 2, 1903. A group of robbers, led by brothers Will and Jeff Taylor, targeted a train carrying $75,000 in gold and cash. The robbers were eventually caught and sentenced to life in prison.

4) On December 2, 1949, the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise opened in South Salt Lake, Utah. The restaurant was owned by Harland Sanders, who had begun selling fried chicken from a roadside restaurant in Kentucky in the 1930s.

5) The Kentucky Educational Television network went on the air for the first time on December 2, 1968. The network was created to provide educational programming to the state's schools and citizens, and has since become a national leader in public television production.
