1. In 1786, the British sailor Captain George Dixon entered Waimea Bay on December 25 and named the island Kauai "Christmas Island" in honor of the holiday.

2. December 25, 1826, marked the first recorded Christmas celebrated in Hawaiʻi. Missionaries from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, Hiram Bingham and his wife, introduced Christmas to the Hawaiian people, with the first service held at Kawaiahaʻo Church in Honolulu.

3. On December 25, 1848, King Kamehameha III signed the Great Mahele, which was a land reform act that established private land ownership in Hawaiʻi for the first time.

4. In 1893, during the Christmas season, the Queen Liliuokalani was overthrown in a bloodless coup led by American businessmen, resulting in the end of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

5. In 1959, December 25 became a major milestone in Hawaiian history as it marked the official admission of Hawaiʻi as the 50th state of the United States. The Hawaiian flag was lowered for the last time as a territory and replaced with the American flag.
