1. In 1831, the first American trading post was established in Idaho by Nathaniel Wyeth at Fort Hall. It was a major stop on the Oregon Trail and served as a trading post for many years.

2. On December 27, 1862, an important battle occurred in present-day southeastern Idaho. The Battle of Bear River was fought between the United States Army and a group of Shoshone Indians, resulting in the deaths of around 250 Shoshone, mostly women and children.

3. The Idaho State Capitol building was officially opened to the public on December 27, 1920. The building is located in Boise and currently serves as the home of the Idaho Legislature and the Governor's office.

4. In 1983, the Craters of the Moon National Monument was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This vast lava field in central Idaho covers over 750,000 acres and is a unique natural wonder.
