1. The 7th of December, 1960, was an important day in South Dakota's history as it was the day when groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the Oahe Dam, which is located on the Missouri River. This is one of the largest dams in the United States, and it provides hydroelectric power to the state of South Dakota, as well as being a popular recreational area.

2. On December 7th, 1890, the last major battle of the American Indian Wars took place at Wounded Knee Creek. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of more than 250 Lakota Sioux people, including women and children, and marked the end of the Sioux Wars.

This massive sculpture, which aims to honor the legendary war leader of the Lakota Sioux, is still under construction today, with work ongoing on the horse's head.

5. On December 7th, 2016, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a law allowing people to carry concealed weapons in the state without a permit. South Dakota is one of several states in the United States that have enacted such laws in recent years.
