1. On February 11, 1918, a major avalanche occurred in the town of Wallace, Idaho. The avalanche destroyed buildings and killed dozens of people, making it one of the deadliest avalanches in U.S. history.
2. In 1976, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game established the "hatchery challenge," which encourages anglers to catch fish that were raised in state fish hatcheries. The program has been successful in promoting fishing and conservation in Idaho.
3. On February 11, 1861, the Idaho Territory was established by President James Buchanan. The territory included parts of present-day Montana and Wyoming, and was later split up to form the states of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
4. In 2011, the Idaho Senate passed a resolution recognizing February 11 as "Ski Idaho Day." The resolution was intended to honor the state's ski industry and encourage residents to take advantage of the state's world-class ski resorts.
5. On February 11, 1935, the University of Idaho dedicated the first building on its Coeur d'Alene campus. The building, which was originally called the North Idaho Junior College, was established to provide higher education opportunities for residents of northern Idaho. Today, the campus is known as the University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene.
