1. Vermont becomes the 14th state
On February 12, 1791, Vermont officially became the 14th state in the United States. Prior to this, Vermont was recognized as a republic for 14 years after declaring independence from New York.
2. The Montpelier Charter
On February 12, 1894, the city of Montpelier adopted its charter which established a mayor-council form of government. This charter would remain in place until 2000 when the city adopted a city-manager form of government.

5. Hinchliffe Stadium Listed on the National Register of Historic Places
On February 12, 2004, Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey was added to the National Register of Historic Places. While not located in Vermont, the stadium was designed by a Vermont-based architectural firm and is recognized for its historic significance in African American sports history.
