1. In 1842, the first post office in Key West was established on February 15th. Key West was an important spot for mail delivery as it was a stopping point for ships traveling to and from Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean.

2. On February 15, 1873, the Florida State Normal College was established in Gainesville. Today, it is known as the University of Florida, one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the state.

3. In 1926, the Tamiami Trail, a highway extending from Tampa to Miami, officially opened on February 15th. The trail was a major engineering feat at the time and helped to open up areas of the state that had previously been difficult to access.

4. On February 15, 1961, the Florida Legislative Investigation Committee, known as the "Johns Committee," was officially disbanded. The committee had been formed in the 1950s to investigate alleged communist activity in the state but ended up targeting civil rights activists and members of the LGBT community.

5. In 2018, on February 15th, a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The shooting resulted in the death of 17 people and sparked a national conversation about gun control and school safety.
