1. Kentucky became the 15th state in the union on June 1, 1792, but it was on February 15, 1793 that the first governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby, was inaugurated.
2. The Kentucky State Capitol building, located in Frankfort, was completed on February 15, 1910. The building has a Beaux-Arts architectural style and houses the offices of the Governor of Kentucky as well as the Kentucky General Assembly.
3. In December 1937, a massive flood swept through parts of Kentucky, causing extensive damage and loss of life. On February 15, 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill providing federal aid to victims of the flood.
4. The famous boxer Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 17, 1942. On February 15, 1961, Ali fought his first professional boxing match in Louisville, winning a six-round decision over Tunney Hunsaker.
5. On February 15, 2001, a bill was introduced in the Kentucky House of Representatives to make the Toyota Camry the official state car of Kentucky. The bill never made it out of committee, but it sparked a debate about the appropriateness of such a designation.
