1. On February 2, 1848, the first session of the Florida Legislative Council was held. This marked the beginning of Florida’s statehood and paved the way for the establishment of its state government.

2. In 1894, on February 2, the first football game was played in Gainesville between the University of Florida and the Gainesville Athletic Club. The University of Florida won the game with a score of 16-0.

3. On February 2, 1909, the first commercial flight in Florida history took place. Aviator Tony Jannus flew from St. Petersburg to Tampa in a Benoist airboat, marking the birth of the commercial aviation industry in the state.

4. In 1977, on February 2, notorious serial killer Ted Bundy was found guilty of the Chi Omega murders that had occurred in Tallahassee the previous year. Bundy was eventually executed in Florida for his crimes.

5. On February 2, 1996, the Florida Marlins held their first official Spring Training at the newly constructed Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida. The stadium has since hosted numerous Spring Training games for the Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals.
