2. Wyoming Becomes a State: On February 2, 1890, President Benjamin Harrison signed the proclamation admitting Wyoming into the Union as the 44th state. Wyoming was the first state to grant women the right to vote and to elect a woman governor.

3. University of Wyoming Founded: Another major event in Wyoming history took place on February 2, 1886, when the territorial legislature passed a bill establishing the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Today, UW is the state's only public four-year university and serves around 12,000 students.

4. The Birth of a Famous Writer: Poet, novelist, and playwright James Dickey was born on February 2, 1923, in Atlanta, Georgia. Dickey's works include the 1970 novel "Deliverance," which was later made into a movie, and he served as the poet laureate consultant in poetry to the Library of Congress from 1966 to 1968. Dickey moved to Wyoming in the 1980s and lived near Laramie until his death in 1997.

5. Blizzard of 1949: From February 2-5, 1949, Wyoming and other Plains states were hit by a major winter storm that became known as the Blizzard of 1949. The storm dumped over two feet of snow on parts of the state and caused widespread disruption, including road closures and power outages. Wyoming's governor at the time, Frank A. Barrett, declared a state of emergency and mobilized the National Guard to help with aid and rescue efforts.
