1. In 1886, the town of Sheridan, Wyoming was incorporated. Located in the northeastern part of the state, Sheridan was originally established as a coal mining town.
2. On February 20, 1908, a blizzard known as the "Schoolhouse Blizzard" struck Wyoming and other parts of the Midwest. The storm caused many schools to close early, but some children were caught in the blizzard while trying to get home. Many tragically perished in the storm.
3. In 1913, the Wyoming state legislature approved a law that allowed women to vote in state elections. This made Wyoming the first state in the U.S. to grant women suffrage.
4. On February 20, 1943, the Casper Army Air Base was established in Casper, Wyoming. The base was used for training B-17 bomber crews during World War II.
5. In 1978, the Fossil Butte National Monument was established in Kemmerer, Wyoming. The monument features fossils of ancient fish, plants, and insects that lived in the area over 50 million years ago.
