2. In 1904, Bessie Coleman, the first African-American woman to earn a pilot's license, was born in Atlanta, Texas. She later moved to Chicago and began performing as a stunt pilot. In 1925, Coleman was tragically killed in a plane crash during a rehearsal for an airshow in Jacksonville, Florida.

3. In 1959, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 in a game that was televised in color for the first time. The game was broadcast by NBC using their new "compatible color" system, which allowed viewers with color television sets to see the game in full color.
