1. In 1735, James Oglethorpe signed a treaty with the Creek Indians near Augusta, Georgia, establishing a boundary line between the Creek Nation and British colonial settlements. This treaty helped to ease tensions between the two groups and allowed for peaceful settlement and trade.

2. On February 26, 1863, the Battle of Waynesboro took place during the Civil War. Union forces, led by General Judson Kilpatrick, attempted to capture Confederate General Hugh W. Mercer and his troops in Waynesboro, Georgia. The Confederates were able to hold off the Union advance and force them to retreat, resulting in a Confederate victory.

3. Georgia native and baseball legend Hank Aaron hit his first home run of the 1954 season on February 26 of that year. Aaron, who played for the Milwaukee Braves at the time, would go on to become one of the greatest home run hitters in baseball history, breaking Babe Ruth's record in 1974.

5. On February 26, 1926, civil rights activist and historian John Hope Franklin was born in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. Franklin was instrumental in documenting the history of African Americans in the United States and was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 94.
