1. On February 27, 1782, the first recorded delivery of mail by the United States Post Office took place in New Jersey. The mail traveled from New York City to Burlington, NJ, and was carried by horseback.

2. In 1844, on February 27, the New Jersey State Normal School, now known as The College of New Jersey, was established in Trenton. It was the first teacher-training institution in the state.
